Three years after the breach incident, the CISF has significantly enhanced security at the Parliament House Complex following full operational control in May 2024.
This overhaul includes the deployment of more than 3,300 personnel who must clear mandatory psychological and physical assessments before being assigned to the legislative building. To improve long-term familiarity and secure access control, the CISF also revised its posting policy extending the tenure of specialised troops from three to four years.
According to the CISF, deployed personnel will receive rigorous and specialised training from elite units like the National Security Guard (NSG) and Indian Army with focus on advanced threats – drone mitigation and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents.
The CISF said it undertook a comprehensive security review after the 2023 incident. It was formally brought in to guard the Parliament building in May 2024, assuming full charge of all core security layers — access control, perimeter and internal security, counter-terror and counter-sabotage response, bomb threat management, and fire and disaster preparedness.
It said its specialised contingent includes more than 200 specialists dedicated to fire and disaster management, ensuring comprehensive preparedness. The CISF is introducing advanced safety measures, including “airport-style security protocols such as advanced frisking, X-ray baggage checks and multi-level access verification”, it added.
Chief PRO for CISF, deputy inspector general Ajay Dahiya said this will ensure only the most capable individuals are assigned to this critical duty, for which rigorous vetting and training standards have been implemented. Personnel selected for Parliament security must mandatorily clear psychological assessment, the battle physical efficiency test (BPET), specific induction training, and comprehensive security clearance with focus on “younger, fitter and rigorously trained personnel”, the official said.

- Dahiya said the CISF has also introduced a new posting policy for troops guarding Parliament. Under this revised framework, the tenure of personnel deployed has been extended from the existing three years to four years, with the possibility of one additional year’s extension based on suitability.
- He noted that the extended tenure is strategically important. “The extended tenure will further strengthen familiarity of personnel with members of Parliament and movement patterns within the complex, which is critical for ensuring accurate identification, secure access protocols, layered threat detection and response,” he added.
- Dahiya further said this move is also intended to ensure “operational continuity” and optimised rotation, thereby ensuring a steady infusion of new blood while maintaining expertise.
- He said this move confirmed that these revised posting norms, coupled with the enhanced training and preparedness measures, reaffirm the CISF’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security at the Parliament House Complex.
