An Afghan man suspected of shooting two National Guard soldiers near the White House had previously worked with multiple US government entities, including the CIA, before being evacuated to the United States as a refugee in September 2021, Fox News reported, citing intelligence director John Ratcliffe.
The suspect, who was taken into custody soon after the attack, is believed to have arrived as part of the Afghanistan evacuation following the Taliban takeover. Authorities have not released his identity or disclosed a motive, while the two soldiers remain in critical condition.
US President Donald Trump condemned Wednesday’s shooting of two National Guard soldiers just blocks from the White House as an “act of terror,” saying the attacker was a migrant from Afghanistan.
