India gave a sharp response to Pakistan over the Dhwajarohan (flag hoisting) ceremony of the Ram Mandir in UP’s Ayodhya, saying it had no moral standing to lecture others and would do better to focus on its own abysmal human rights record.
His remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi ceremonially hoisted a saffron flag on the spire of the Ram temple in UP’s Ayodhya on Tuesday, symbolising the completion of its construction. While the ceremony was a moment of emotional and spiritual significance for Hindus, Pakistan accused India of “discrimination towards minorities” and “eradicating Muslim culture and heritage”, without any evidence.
Noting Pakistan’s response, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the reported remarks and reject them with the contempt they deserve. As a country with a deeply stained record of bigotry, repression, and systemic mistreatment of its minorities, Pakistan has no moral standing to lecture others.”
“Rather than delivering hypocritical homilies, Pakistan would do better to turn its gaze inwards and focus on its own abysmal human rights record,” he added.
BJP Slams Pakistan
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mocked Islamabad’s remarks, saying it was similar to Osama Bin Laden talking about world peace.
“Pakistan should be the last entity that should lecture anybody on human rights or minorities. Look at their own track record, and they are doing it on the day of 26/11. The day when they carried out the most dastardly terror attack and claimed many innocent lives. They are the ones who ensured that Hindus, Sikhs, Balochs and Ahmadiyyas in Pakistan are persecuted,” said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.
A Historic Moment
The ceremony was to mark the completion of the Ram Mandir’s construction after it was unveiled on January 2024. The right-angled triangular flag, measuring 10 feet in height and 20 feet in length, bears the image of a radiant Sun symbolising the brilliance and valour of Lord Rama, as per an official statement.
The flag carries profound religious symbolism rooted in the Sanatan tradition. Its creation, materials, sacred motifs and technological features reflect a fusion of ancient belief and modern precision. According to Sanatan traditions, hoisting a flag on a temple spire is among the most sacred acts in Sanatan Dharma.
Addressing the gathering in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and thousands of attendees, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat described the Dhwajarohan ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir as a moment of “immense historical, emotional and spiritual significance”, calling it the realisation of centuries of collective aspiration, sacrifice and struggle.
