According to The New York Times, the fire broke out at 2 pm local time (10.30 pm Indian time) in a pavilion inside a convention hall. At the time of the incident, more than 50,000 diplomats, journalists and activists from more than 190 countries were present in the pavilion.
According to the local fire department, the fire probably started from some electronic device (probably a microwave). However, other reasons are being investigated.

Thousands of people from more than 190 countries have come to participate in it. In their statement, the organizers have asked guests to wait till further notice for information related to the program.

Many important meetings were canceled or postponed due to the fire. Now instead of ending by Friday evening, the conference time may extend till late night or Saturday.
At present, the delegates will be allowed re-entry only after thorough inspection of the site.
