India’s 191 richest personalities donated Rs 10,380 crore last year. HCL founder Shiv Nadar has once again been the country’s biggest philanthropist, according to the Edelgive-Hurun India Philanthropy List-2025. Last year an average of Rs 7.4 crore was donated daily.

Nadar and family have topped the list for the fourth time in 5 years. Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani stood second and Bajaj Group stood third. There are 24 women in the list. Rohini Nilekani is at the top among women. He donated Rs 204 crore. At the second place, Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw donated Rs 83 crore.

At the same time, Nikhil Kamat (39) and Nitin Kamat (46) of Zerodha are at the top among the youngest philanthropists. He donated Rs 147 crore. Binny Bansal (42), who stood second, donated Rs 18 crore.

Many professional managers donated from their personal assets

Many prominent professional managers donated from their personal wealth. These include former L&T Group chairman AM Naik (54 crore), Amit Chandra and Archana Chandra (47 crore) and venture capitalists Prashant Prakash and Amita Prashant (17 crore).

Reliance donated Rs 1,309 crore under CSR

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries donated the maximum amount of Rs 1,309 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This is Rs 261 crore more than the mandatory expenditure. Rungta Sons did CSR of Rs 181 crore, which was Rs 114 crore more than the planned expenditure. Jindal Steel & Power spent Rs 267 crore on CSR, which is Rs 100 crore more than their scheduled expenditure.

Infosys created a new record

Infosys co-founders and their families set a new record. Nandan Nilekani, Chris Gopalakrishnan, K. Dinesh, Rohini Nilekani and Kumari Shibulal together donated more than Rs 850 crore this year. This is the largest charitable contribution by a single company.

Last year also Nadar had given the maximum donation.

HCL co-founder Shiv Nadar was the country’s biggest philanthropist last year too. Shiv and his family had donated Rs 2,153 crore in the financial year 2023-24. That means Rs 5.90 crore were given daily. This information was also given in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024.

According to this list, the top 10 celebrities in the list of donors had donated a total of Rs 4,625 crore, which was about 53% of the total donations in the list. Krishna Chivukula and Susmita and Subroto Bagchi had secured 7th and 9th position in the list. Six out of the top 10 donors had given more money to education under their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
