Vote counting for the 2025 Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union elections is nearing its conclusion. The competition between the Left and ABVP remains tight, with the Left leading in all seats.
Aditi Mishra from the Left Alliance is leading the race for president in the 2025 JNU Students’ Union elections. The Left Alliance is campaigning to maintain an “inclusive, accessible, and democratic JNU,” while ABVP focuses on “protest and nationalism.”
This year, voter turnout was recorded at 67%, which is, slightly lower compared to last year when the voter turnout was 70%.
In the previous election, ABVP made a significant comeback after a decade by winning the Joint Secretary position on the Central Panel. However, this year’s trends suggest that the Left’s stronghold at JNU remains difficult to break.

Tensions had erupted on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus during the counting of votes for the 2025 JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections. A minor scuffle broke out between some Left Unity members near the counting area. Campus security personnel arrived immediately and brought the situation under control.
University officials and the Election Committee appealed to students to maintain peace as votes for the remaining seats are still being counted. Security has been tightened around the counting sites to ensure a peaceful outcome. Although no major disturbances occurred, students are on alert. The final results are expected to be announced anytime soon.
