Born on 4 November 1971 in Hyderabad, Tabassum Fatima Hashmi is today known to the world as Tabu. He did not get the support of his father in his childhood itself. When the relationship between mother Rizwana and father Jamal Hashmi broke down, the world at home changed. Tabu had said in an interview given to Simi Garewal in the year 2015 that she does not even want to see her father’s face, because for her mother is the whole world.

When Tabu was three years old, her father Jamal Hashmi divorced her mother and remarried. After this, Tabu never saw his father nor expressed any desire to meet him.

Mother Rizwana raised both daughters Farah and Tabassum alone. After schooling in Hyderabad, Tabu came to Mumbai, where she studied from St. Xavier’s College and then gradually moved towards films.

After the screen test, she got the role of Dev Anand’s daughter in his film ‘Hum Naujawan’ (1985) and thus her film journey began.

Jackie Shroff accused of molestation

In 1986, when Tabu’s sister Farah Naz was shooting for the film “Diljala” in Mauritius, she went to a party with her sister. Jackie Shroff was under the influence of alcohol at that party and he allegedly tried to forcefully kiss Tabu. Tabu opposed this, but Jackie continued to apply pressure.

During this, actor Danny Denzongpa intervened and took control of the situation and took Jackie away from Tabu. According to the report published in Times of India, Tabu’s sister Farah had gone to the media after that incident and alleged this incident.

However, the matter was later resolved as a misunderstanding. Tabu never worked with Jackie Shroff in her entire career and she never mentioned this incident publicly.

Debut film released after eight years

In 1987, Boney Kapoor signed him in his film ‘Prem’. Her opposite in this film was Anil Kapoor’s younger brother Sanjay Kapoor. The film was announced quickly, but it took eight years to complete. Amidst this long wait, Tabu also did some more films, but none of the films could reach the hearts of the audience.

This was the period when he got the film ‘Vijaypath’ in 1994. Ajay Devgan was seen with Tabu in this film. Ajay was growing rapidly as an action hero at that time and his pairing with Tabu was very much liked by the audience. ‘Vijaypath’ became a hit at the box office as soon as it was released. The film proved to be a superhit and Tabu also got a new identity on the big screen. Her acting was praised everywhere and she also received the Filmfare Best Debut Actress Award for this film.
