Zohran Mamdani is of Indian origin
Zohran Mamdani is the son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair. Mamdani was born in Uganda, but grew up in the United States. After completing college, Zoharan got American citizenship in the year 2018. He learned politics by working for Democratic candidates in Queens and Brooklyn.
Two years later, in 2020, he won the New York State Assembly elections for the first time from Astoria, Queens. They represent Astoria and surrounding areas of Queens.
As a democratic socialist, he has started a pilot program. Under this program, some buses of the city have been made free for one year. He has also proposed a law. Under this law, non-profit organizations would be prevented from supporting Israeli settlements.
