Today, the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 was introduced in Parliament to amend the old Waqf laws. The opposition opposed this bill. As soon as the bill was introduced, there was a lot of uproar in the House. A controversy has already arisen over this bill. Organizations like All India Muslim Personal Law Board and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi have strongly opposed this move of the government. The Waqf laws of 1995 and 2013 have been amended through the bill. In this bill, the name of the Waqf Act of 1995 has been changed to Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act 1995. About 40 changes were made in the old laws through the bill. The bill states that despite the laws of 1995 and 2013, there has been no significant improvement in the functioning of the State Waqf Board and there is a lack of transparency in the management and operation of Waqf properties.
