The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has postponed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination Super Speciality (NEET SS 2025). According to the revised schedule, NEET SS 2025 will now be held on December 27 and 28, 2025. Previously, it was set to take place on November 7 and 8.
“NEET-SS 2025 which was tentatively scheduled to be held on 7th and 8th November 2025, shall now be conducted on 27th and 28th December 2025. This has approval from NMC and MoHFW,” reads the official notice.
The exam will be conducted in two shifts: the first shift from 9 am to 11.30 am, and the second shift from 2 pm to 4.30 pm. Candidates have been concerned for several days about a possible postponement due to a delay in the application process.
Additionally, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for medical colleges to submit the admission details of NEET SS.
The NEET SS exam pattern includes 150 multiple-choice questions divided into three sections, each with 50 questions and a time limit of 50 minutes per section, making a total exam duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The exam is worth 600 marks, with four marks awarded for each correct answer and a one-mark deduction for each incorrect response. The questions are based on the primary broad specialty subject, including its sub-specialties, and are presented in a computer-based test format in English.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET SS) is the sole eligibility and entrance examination for admission to Super Specialty Courses, which include:
All DM/MCh Courses nationwide, including those at Private Medical Colleges/Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities.
All DM/MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.
All DrNB Super-Specialty Courses (excluding Direct 6 Years DrNB Courses).
The 13 disciplines tested in NEET SS are medical, pharmacology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, pathology, anaesthesiology, radiodiagnosis, microbiology, psychiatry, surgery, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, and orthopaedics. 156 public and private medical schools, as well as Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) institutions, use NEET SS to admit students to 2,447 seats in Doctor of Medicine (DM) and Masters of Surgery (MCh) programmes.
