It’s been a month since the demise of popular Assam singer Zubeen Garg, but his wife Garima Garg is still searching for answers. Talking to Dainik Bhaskar, he said that answers to many questions in the investigation have not been found even today.
Garima is now appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for intervention. Garima said, ‘I cannot get Zubeen back, but I have the right to know the truth of his death.’
Here, Sandipan, Shyamkanu Mahant, Siddharth Sharma, who were caught by SIT/CID in Zubeen Garg death case, are being presented in the court today.
SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta said that the custody of the remaining two will be completed the next day and they will be produced on October 17.
So far, nine witnesses among those who accompanied Zubeen to Singapore have appeared before the CID and one more witness may appear today.

Are people remembering him as a singer or as a human being?
Zubeen was a greater human being than he was a great singer. There was no difference of caste and religion among them. He gave new heights to Assamese cinema. Sung more than 39 thousand songs and made a record of 36 recordings in a day. He never thought of leaving Assam and its people. The crowd gathered at his last journey proved that Zubeen was not just a voice, but an emotion. After his departure, now I am completely alone. He was a hero of the common people, someone who trusted others, and perhaps it was because of that trust that we lost him.
How satisfied are you with the investigation?
We are waiting patiently. There is confidence that Assam Police and CID will bring out the truth, what happened to Zubeen that day, why it happened and who did it. We just want to know.
Is there a possibility of ‘foul play’?
No one has yet explained clearly what happened that day. Videos viral on social media show serious negligence. They went into the water again, without life jackets, and no one was around. Singapore’s post-mortem report says he drowned, but can the possibility of a conspiracy be ruled out in such a situation? I am confident that the police will bring out the truth through strict investigation.

Yes, it was given to me. But there was confusion about making it public. It was said that this could affect the investigation. Therefore, I returned the report, unopened and sealed, to the same SIT officer who had brought it to me.
Do you suspect murder?
Before saying anything now, I would like the agencies to complete their work. There is a lot of talk on social media, but I just want the investigation to be fair and fast. It has been 25 days since Zubeen left. My appeal to the people is to be patient, justice will definitely be given.
Why did you appeal to the Prime Minister to intervene?
The Prime Minister himself had paid tribute to Zubeen. The music and art world of the country and the world have also appealed for justice. Zubeen is now a cultural symbol not only of Assam but of entire India. Therefore, I request that the Central Government should remove the obstacles in this investigation. We only want the truth, that will be the true tribute to Zubeen.
