UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in India for his first official visit since taking office, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Interestingly, instead of travelling on the RAF Voyager, also known as Vespina, the aircraft typically used for official international trips, Starmer flew on British Airways flight BA 9100, a commercial plane specially arranged for his journey. The flight offered advanced safety and comfort features for the UK PM.

UK PM Starmer and PM Modi will spend two days discussing trade, technology, defence, climate, energy, health and education. They will also hold talks with business leaders to explore new possibilities created by the recently signed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). As Starmer begins this important diplomatic trip, here’s a look at the aircraft that brought the UK leader to India, along with its key features and safety details.

BA 9100 Specifications

BA 9100 is a single-aisle jet with two engines, manufactured by the European company Airbus Industrie. It belongs to the Airbus A320 family, the world’s best-selling aircraft line. This model boasts the longest flying range in its class and is a shorter version of the highly successful A320, seven frames shorter but nearly identical in design and features.

British Airways has 25 Airbus A319 aircraft in its fleet. Each plane can carry up to 144 passengers. It is 33.8 meters long, has a wingspan of 34.1 meters and stands 11.8 meters tall. It is powered by two IAE V2500 engines, each producing up to 27,000 pounds of thrust. It can fly at a top speed of 828 km/h and cover a distance of up to 6700 km. Often known as the “BabyBus” in the British Airways family, the A319 is loved for its smooth performance, comfortable design and fuel efficiency.
