Earlier, Vinesh defeated world champion Yui Susaki in the last 10 seconds in the pre-quarterfinals. This was Susaki’s first defeat in an international match. In the quarterfinals, Vinesh defeated Oksana of Ukraine 7-5.

Uncle Mahavir Phogat said- my dream will be fulfilled
On Vinesh Phogat’s victory, Dronacharya Awardee uncle Mahavir Phogat said- “In 2016 also, there was full expectation of a gold medal from Vinesh Phogat. She was fully prepared. Then she missed it due to a knee injury. Then she suffered a head injury. She was out of the match for a year. This time we are fully hopeful that Vinesh will fulfill my dream of winning a gold medal.”
Mahavir Phogat further said- “Vinesh has defeated a good girl from Japan. I had seen that the Japanese girl does leg attacks. I had told her to keep defense in the first round. She did the same and kept defense in the first round and defeated her.”
Cousin Sangeeta Phogat said, “We hope that Vinesh Phogat will bring the gold medal. India has not won a gold medal in wrestling till date.”
Vinesh’s father-in-law said – our daughter-in-law will definitely win a gold medal for the country
Vinesh Phogat’s father-in-law Rajpal Rathi is hopeful that his daughter-in-law will definitely win the gold medal for India. On Sunday, the family members spoke to Vinesh over the phone and she said that she will give her all to win the gold medal.

Vinesh had led the protest against Brij Bhushan
In terms of Indian sports, the first month of the year 2023 was in the news due to a different big controversy. When about 23 players including some Olympians came out on the streets with the allegation of physical abuse against the then President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and demanding his removal.
The sit-in protest went on for several days and was mainly led by three wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat. This dispute was bound to affect the Olympic preparations of the players and it did.
Bajrang Punia had to face severe criticism when he could not qualify for the Maha Kumbh. As always, Vinesh Phogat defied all the difficulties and hurdles in her path and secured the Olympic quota. Now she will have a big challenge to win a medal.

Vinesh was encouraged to wrestle by her uncle Mahavir Phogat
Vinesh Phogat was born on 25 August 1994 in Balali village of Bhiwani district in Haryana. Vinesh’s father died when she was very young. After this, her mother raised Vinesh with great love. Her family has been known for wrestling since the beginning.
Vinesh’s uncle Mahavir Phogat encouraged her to wrestle. Initially, Vinesh was not interested in wrestling. Later, her inclination gradually increased towards wrestling. After this, she joined the list of Indian women wrestlers. On 13 December 2018, Vinesh married wrestler Somveer Rathi.
