Parents wanted to make doctors

Before coming to films, Chunky Pandey started taking acting training after completing his education. Chunky’s parents (Dr. Snehalata Pandey-Dr. Sharad Pandey) were a doctor, so he was under pressure to become a doctor, but he bowed towards acting. After failing several times in class 10th, he left studies and enrolled in acting class.

Chunky Pandey made his debut in 1987 with producer Pahlaj Nihalani’s film ‘Aag Hi Aag’. There is a very funny story of getting work in this film. Which was told by Chunky Pandey in the show of Cyrus Brocha. Chunky had said- I went to a wedding wearing a churidar pajamas. I used to know how to tie his knot, but opening it was outside my bus.

I had to go to the bathroom due to drinking too much beer, but after going inside, I could not open my pulse. Standing inside the bathroom, making a sound for helping loudly. The people present there were laughing as a joke. But then a person proceeded to help, he was the filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani.

He had told that in 1989, on the set of the film ‘Kasam Vardi Ki’, Chunky Pandey teased him as “I am the man”, which he did not like at all. In anger, he slapped Chunky Pandey in front of the crew. The director had told that he also went to his house 20-25 times to cast Chunky Pandey in the film ‘Tridev’, but Chunky used to debate again and again on the amount of Rs 1-2 lakh. Because of this, he dropped Chunky from the film, cast someone else.

Rajiv also told that Chunky Pandey is very stingy of nature and he is forced by his habits. He said that during the shooting of the film ‘Vishwatma’, Chunky used to keep only one cigarette with him so that no one could ask for cigarettes from him.

Chunky Pandey has revealed in several interviews about the reasons that affected their career that when big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan came into Bollywood, the shine of his career faded. He had said this in a recent screen interview, in which he said that his career was going well in 1987 after his debut film ‘Aag Hi Aag’, but as these new stars got into the industry, they felt lost.

Chunky said that 1988 was his brilliant year, after which everything faded. Chunky Pandey also told that at that time stars like Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were constantly taking entry in the industry, due to which it became difficult to make their place.

Chunky Pandey’s journey in Hindi cinema has been full of ups and downs. He made his debut in 1987 with the film ‘Aag Hi Aag’ and soon made a special identity with the role of Anil Kapoor’s friend in ‘Tezaab’ (1988). However, Pandey did not get that big stardom as the main hero in Hindi films, but his supportive and side rolls were more successful.
