Indian Railways (IR) has reduced the price of Rail Neer bottled water following the recent cut in GST rates. The revised rates will be applicable from September 22 and along with Rail Neer the reduced prices are applicable to all IRCTC-approved packaged water brands sold at stations and trains.

As per the revised rates, the MRP of Rail Neer bottled water will be Rs 14 for a 1-liter bottle (down from Rs 15) and Rs 9 for a 0.5-liter bottle (down from Rs 10).

Taking to X, the Indian Railways posted and announced the revised rates. “Health and savings, both together on the journey! Mineral-rich water – Rail Neer, now even more affordable,” the post reads.

In an official communication dated September 20, 2025, to all General Managers and the CMD of IRCTC, the Railway Board announced: “Maximum retail price of packaged drinking water bottle ‘Rail Neer’ shall be revised from Rs 15 to Rs 14 per bottle of one litre and Rs 10 to Rs 9 per bottle of 500 ml capacity.”

The Board further clarified that the change will not be limited to Rail Neer alone. “Maximum retail price of IRCTC/Railways shortlisted packaged drinking water bottles of other brands sold in railway premises/trains shall also be revised from Rs 15 to Rs 14 per bottle of one litre and Rs 10 to Rs 9 per bottle of 500 ml capacity,” the letter added.

The revised rates are applicable as per the recommendations of GST 2.0 that follows a two-tier system of 5% and 18%, replacing the earlier 12% and 28% slabs.

The 5 per cent slab consists of essential goods and services, including food and kitchen item like butter, ghee, cheese, dairy spreads, pre-packaged namkeens, bhujia, mixtures, and utensils; agriculture equipment; handicrafts and small industries; also medical equipment and diagnostic kits.

The 18 per cent slab consists of a standard rate for most goods and services, including automobiles such as small cars and motorcycles (up to 350cc), consumer goods like electronic items, household goods, and some professional services, a uniform 18 per cent rate applies to all auto parts.
