Andhra Pradesh Police have rejected charges of a custodial death of a person who was caught gambling in Anantapur district.
The police found the man named Rama Krishna Naik and four others gambling in Nagulaguddam Thanda Village on September 14. A senior inspector asked them to visit the police station on September 15.
Before he could visit the police station, Rama Krishna Naik complained of chest pain, and his family members shifted him to the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) for treatment. Naik’s health was deteriorating, so the doctor at the PHC referred him to the Community Health Centre (CHC), where he complained of severe chest pain and developed sudden heart
stroke, leading to his death.
His relatives staged a demonstration against the police, alleging that he was summoned to the police station and beaten by the police. The victim’s family also staged a protest at the Singanamala police station, demanding justice for Ramakrishna.
However, the police refuted these allegations and said Naik and four others were not brought to the police station on the night of September 14-15.
Last week, on September 7, a man, who was arrested in connection with an attack on security personnel, fell ill in police custody. He died during treatment at a government hospital in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Nasir.
As per a PTI report, police on Friday arrested Nasir and four others on the charge of attacking security personnel in Raja Pakar locality. At least four police personnel, including a woman constable, were injured when violence erupted over a dispute on paying money involving an ice cream vendor in the locality. A mob had attacked cops and damaged police vehicles.
