Germany pulled off a thrilling 88-83 win over Turkey on Sunday to capture their first EuroBasket title since 1993, with captain Dennis Schröder delivering in the clutch.

The reigning FIBA World Cup champions showcased their defensive resilience, with Isaac Bonga producing crucial plays on both ends before Schröder took control in the final minute.

A Battle of Momentum Swings

The game began at a frantic pace, both teams trading three-pointers, big blocks, and bruising challenges. Turkey, led by sharpshooter Cedi Osman, went into halftime with a six-point cushion after knocking down long-range shots with regularity.

However, Germany stormed out in the third quarter to erase the deficit, with Daniel Theis anchoring the paint and Schröder orchestrating the offense.

Turkey looked poised to pull away in the fourth quarter behind Alperen Sengun.  Despite foul trouble, the Houston Rockets center returned to score a tough hook shot and then drew a charge to preserve a narrow lead. Osman kept firing from deep, hitting his sixth three-pointer to double the advantage.

But Sengun’s fourth foul with just under four minutes left shifted the momentum. Moments later, Bonga’s hustle gave Germany a one-point lead.

Schröder’s Clutch Finish

With tensions rising, Schröder drove to the basket for a layup before punishing Turkey again with a step-back jumper in the final 19 seconds to push Germany ahead by three. Sengun’s desperate heave missed, and Osman fouled Schröder, who iced both free throws to clinch the title.

It was a defining moment for the 31-year-old, who finished with a team-high 24 points.

“We’ve waited so long for this,” Schröder said. “I’m proud of how we fought until the end.”

Greece Secure Bronze

In the third-place playoff, Greece survived a dramatic late scare to edge Finland 92-89. The Greeks nearly squandered a 15-point advantage in the final four minutes but held on to claim the bronze medal, their first podium finish since 2009.
