At the Seemicon India 2025 event, the indigenous chip was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Ashwini Vaishnav.

The country’s first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor chip ‘Vikram’ has been launched at the Seemicon India 2025 event. The chip is created by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Semacist Laboratory (SCL) and is specially designed for space missions.

During the launch, the chip was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav. In the event, Modi said that earlier oil was called black gold, but now chips are digital diamonds.

Vikram chip can work at 125 ° C temperature

‘Vikram’ is India’s first 32-bit microprocessor, which is fully designed and designed in the country. This chip is so strong that it can withstand the difficult situations of launching rockets in space. This means that it is designed to work in temperatures ranging from -55 ° C to +125 ° C.

This chip has been prepared by Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) and Semiconductor Lab (SCL). It is based on 180 nanometer CMOS technology. The first batch of this chip was tested in the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM-4) during the PSLV-C60 mission, where it gave power to the Mission Management Computer. This chip was completely successful in the test, which proved that it is reliable for future space missions.

Features of Vikram Chip

32-bit architecture: This chip works on 32-bit general-priest architecture, which is more advance than the first 16-bit Vikram 1601 chip.

Floating-point operations: It supports 64-bit floating-point operations, which is necessary for complex calculations. This is especially useful for accurate calculation in space mission, scientific research.

Indigenous software: All software tools for this chip, such as compiler, assembler, liner, simulator, and Integrated Development Environment (IDE), ISRO have created themselves.

Kalpana 3201 microprocessor is also introduced

In addition, Vikram as well as four more indigenous devices were introduced, which will help to smaller and improve the avionics system of launch vehicles. These include reinfigned data acvenues, relay driver IC, and multi-channel low drop-out regulator IC. Also, another 32-bit SPARC V8 RisC microprocessor named Kalpana 3201 was also introduced, which is compatible with open-source tools.

PM Modi starts Seemicon India 2025

Seemicon India 2025 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 September 2025 in Yashobhumi, Delhi. This three-day event (2-4 September) is participating in more than 350 exhibitions, 2,500 delegates and 150 speakers from 33 countries. The objective of this event is to make India a global hub of semiconductor design, manufacturing and technology development.

PM Modi said that the Global Semiconductor Market is currently $ 600 billion, which will cross $ 1 trillion in the coming years.

PM Modi said- Chips are digital diamonds

Prime Minister Modi said on this occasion, “Earlier oil was called black gold, but now chips are digital diamonds.” He said that the global semiconductor market is currently $ 600 billion, which will cross $ 1 trillion in the coming years. India is on the way to achieve a large part in this market. He also said that India is no longer limited to back-end operations, but is fulfilling the dream of ‘Design in India, Made in India’.

Why is this chip important for India?

Semiconductor chips are essential in every region- healthcare, transport, communication, defense, and space today. These chips are important not only for technological development, but also for economic security and strategic freedom. India with Vikram chip will now reduce dependence on foreign chips, especially in sensitive areas such as space and defense.
