In a deadly ambush on Monday, militants attacked a convoy of Pakistan’s security forces in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district, killing seven personnel and injuring at least 15 others, according to official sources.
The attack targeted a unit of the Frontier Corps (FC) as it traversed the restive region. Eyewitnesses and local security officials reported a heavy exchange of gunfire between the assailants and security forces.
“Multiple militants opened fire on the convoy without warning, triggering an intense gun‑battle,” a senior security official confirmed. “Seven of our brave personnel have embraced martyrdom, and 15 others sustained injuries in the attack.”
Rescue teams and military reinforcements were quickly dispatched to the area to secure the zone and evacuate the wounded. The injured were taken to nearby medical facilities, where some remain in critical condition.

The incident in Daraban is not isolated: the region around Dera Ismail Khan, especially Daraban, has been the site of several major militant attacks and counter‐operations in recent years, indicating a persistent security threat.
In September 2025, a raid in Daraban resulted in 13 militants being killed, with the ISPR identifying them as “khwarij” (a term used by the Pakistani military for extremist groups) active in the area. Earlier in April 2025, security forces carried out an intelligence‑based operation in the Takwara area of Dera Ismail Khan, killing nine terrorists including a high‑value target ring‑leader.
