Train No 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Superfast Express allegedly entered in a loop line and collided with a stationary good train, railway sources said.

At least six coaches of Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Superfast Express were derailed and three of them caught fire after the train collided with a stationary goods train near Chennai on Friday.

“Six coaches of Train No.12578 (MYS-DBG) Mysore to Darbhanga were derailed after it collided with a goods train at around 20.30 hours. No causalities were reported. A few people were injured. The medical relief van and rescue team have started to move from Chennai Central,” Southern Railway said in a statement.

The incident took place at Kavarapettai, which comes under Chennai Railway Division, when train number 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Superfast Express experienced heavy jerk and entered in a loop line and collided with a stationary goods train at a speed of 90-100 kmph, railway sources said.

The Railways said that General Manager Southern Railway, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chennai division, and senior railway officers have rushed to the spot.
