In a deeply troubling incident in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district, a four-year-old student was hung from a tree inside his school campus as punishment for not completing his homework.

The incident occurred at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir, a nursery to class VIII school in Narayanpur village. According to reports, the child’s teacher found that he had not done his homework, called him out of the classroom, and then tied his shirt with a rope and hung him from a tree within the school grounds.

A disturbing video of the incident circulated on social media, showing the youngster hanging and crying out for help while two women teachers stood nearby. The two accused teachers have been identified as Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan.

When challenged, the school management admitted to a “serious lapse” and issued a public apology. Meanwhile, the district education officials have launched an inquiry into the incident. According to the Block Education Officer, the cluster-in-charge has submitted a detailed report to senior district officials, and action will follow.

The child, thankfully, is reportedly safe and unharmed, but the episode has ignited widespread outrage among parents, activist,s and villagers, with demands for strict accountability not only of the teachers but also of the school itself.
