The news of rape of a 13-year-old tribal girl from Palghar district of Maharashtra, after allegedly forcing her into marriage, has created a sensation. Police gave this information on Friday. An official said that on the basis of the complaint of the minor girl, the police have registered a case against five people including the groom and his family, residents of Ahilyanagar.
According to the police, the girl’s grandfather had allegedly got her married to a man resident of Ahilyanagar in September. After this she was repeatedly sexually harassed. The groom’s parents also tortured her mentally.
The officer said, ‘We have registered a case against five people, including her husband, on charges of forced marriage of the minor girl, trafficking and repeated sexual assault. This case touches multiple jurisdictions and we are coordinating the investigation to ensure immediate action against all accused involved in this serious crime.
He said that the crime has been registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Justice Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
