28-year-old Sonu, from village Madanheri in Hisar district of Haryana, died while fighting for the Russian army in the Russia-Ukraine war. A Russian Army officer has sent a letter to his family informing them about this.

It was written in the letter that Sonu’s body has reached Moscow and the family will have to come to Russia to collect it. At the same time, there has been no contact with 24-year-old Aman from the same village who had gone with him since September 22. Both the youths had gone to Russia about a year and a quarter ago, in May 2024, to do a foreign language course.
Family members allege that both of them were fraudulently recruited into the Russian Army. Now the family has sought help from the Home Ministry and the India-Russia Embassy, but no official confirmation has been received yet.
Many Indians are trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war. The families are continuously pleading with the government.

Deceased Sonu’s brother Anil told that Sonu had gone to Russia to learn the language on 8 May 2024. His visa was about to expire and he was going to return to India soon. On September 3, Sonu called and told that he was being recruited into the Russian Army by tricking and there were preparations to send him to the Ukraine war. He told me not to join the army, please save me. After this the family kept trying to contact him.
Message came in Russian language, got translation done by expert
Sonu’s younger brother Ankit told that on September 19, a message from a Russian official came on Telegram. The message was in Russian language, which was translated by an expert. It was written in it that Sonu was missing since September 6 and now his dead body has been found. They were asked to come to Moscow to collect the body.
