There are four important Hamas figures who could replace Haniyeh.
Hamas’ political chief Ismail Haniyeh died in an Israeli attack on Tuesday night. He was the biggest face of Hamas. Now the discussion about the person who will replace him has started.
Usually after the death of a chief, the deputy chief takes his place, but Hamas’ deputy chief Saleh al-Aruri was killed in January this year. The Israeli army killed Hamas’ number-2 leader in a drone attack. Now both the number-1 and number-2 positions in Hamas’ political wing are vacant.
After Haniyeh’s death, there are some people who are being said to be the ones who can replace Haniyeh. The Shura Council is a body that advises Hamas. According to reports, its meeting is expected to take place soon. In this, the name of the new successor of Hamas will be revealed.
There is a lot of discussion about four names in Hamas who will replace Haniyeh.

Sinwar was declared a terrorist by the US in 2015.
1. Yahya Sinwar- Hamas’s most dreaded man
After Haniyeh, Sinwar is considered the second biggest political leader of Hamas. 62-year-old Yahya Sinwar is also known as Abu Ibrahim. He was born in the refugee camp of Khan Younis located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Yahya’s parents were from Ashkelon. When Israel was established in 1948 and thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their ancestral homes, Yahya’s parents also became refugees. Palestinians call it ‘Al-Nakba’ i.e. the day of destruction.
According to BBC, Yahya Sinwar was first arrested by Israel in 1982. He was 19 years old at that time. Yahya was accused of being involved in ‘Islamic activities’. He was arrested again in 1985. Around this time, Yahya won the trust of Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yasin.
Sinwar came close to Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin in 1985. He is one of the founding members of Hamas. Sinwar is the Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip. Like Haniyeh and Daif, Sinwar is also considered the mastermind of the attack on Israel.
Sinwar was found guilty of killing two Israeli soldiers, after which he had to stay in Israeli jail for 22 years. In 2011, Israel released 1027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for soldier Gilad Shalit. Sinwar was also included in this. Now Israel considers this as the biggest mistake.

The Butcher of Khan Yunis
Sinwar is known for carrying out brutal murders. According to a BBC report, Sinwar had a man buried alive by his brother on suspicion of spying for Israel.
The surprising thing is that the burial was done not with a shovel but with a spoon. Due to such cruelty, Sinwar is also called the butcher of Khan Yunis. Even those close to Sinwar are afraid of him. It is said that if you are ignoring Sinwar’s words, then you are putting your life at stake.
Sinwar killed Hamas commander Mahmoud Ishtiwi by torturing him in 2015. Ishtiwi was accused of homosexuality and money laundering. Sinwar is an expert in controlling people. However, he is not considered a very good speaker.
In 2014, he was declared ‘dead’, but after some time it turned out to be a rumour. In 2015, Yahya was declared a terrorist by the US. Sinwar is considered close to Iran. Sinwar’s claim to replace Haniyeh is also very strong.
Khaled Meshaal was the political chief of Hamas until 2017.
2. Khalid Meshaal – Was Hamas chief for 21 years before Haniyeh
Like Sinwar, Khaled Meshaal’s claim to replace Haniyeh after his death is considered to be very strong. Meshaal was born on 28 May 1956 in Silwad near Ramallah in the West Bank. He joined Egypt’s Sunni organization ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ at the age of 15.
When Hamas was formed in 1987, Meshaal was also a part of it. He became the political chief of Hamas in 1996 and remained in this position till 2017. After this, Haniyeh replaced him. Like Haniyeh, Meshaal also lives in Doha. He used to live and work in Syria between 2004 and 2012. But during this time, civil war started in Syria.
Syria has a majority Sunni population, while its ruler Bashar al-Assad is Shia. Hamas is a Sunni organization. In such a situation, Meshaal supported the Sunni group in Syria. This angered President Bashar al-Assad. Meshaal had to leave Syria. Since then, Meshaal has had bad relations with Syria and Iran.

Israel gave him poison, then saved him by itself, he was named- Zinda Shaheed
The world first realized the power of Meshaal in 1997. Actually Meshaal was staying in Jordan. During this time he was poisoned. The poisoners were agents of Mossad. They were caught while fleeing and only then it was known that Israel was involved in this incident.
Meanwhile Meshaal was taken to the hospital. His breathing was slowing down. The doctors gave up. They said that if the antidote for the poison is not found soon, Meshaal’s life will not be saved.
After this, Jordan King Hussein threatened Israel that if the antidote of that poison is not sent before midnight, he will break the peace agreement with Israel. Not only this, he will hang the Mossad agents who gave the poison.
At first Israel denied any involvement in the incident but when US President Bill Clinton explained the matter to Netanyahu, he was forced to send the antidote. Meshaal survived.
Later Netanyahu also went to Jordan and apologized to the King there. This was the first time that Israel saved one of its enemies from dying. Since then he was named ‘Zinda Shaheed’.

Meshaal is the big face of foreign policy
Meshaal is the big face of Hamas’ foreign policy. He is said to be a charismatic personality. He is an expert in diplomacy. Many big Hamas leaders have been banned from travelling but Meshaal is untouched by this.
There has been a controversy in India regarding Khalid Mashal. He addressed an online rally in support of Palestinians in October last year. Kerala BJP chief K Surendran was upset with the participation of a senior Hamas leader in the online rally. He had demanded legal action against the organizers.
Meshaal is considered to be a completely opposite personality to Yahya Sinwar. This is the reason why he does not get along with Sinwar. Meshaal does not have the support of Iran either, yet he is considered to be the most capable to become the chief of Hamas.
3. Zeher Jabarin- Arranges funding, named Hamas CEO
Jabarin was working as Haniyeh’s deputy. He was born in 1968 in the West Bank. He joined Hamas in 1987. Jabarin has been playing a major role in the exchange of prisoners between Palestine and Israel.
He also looks after the funding of Hamas, so he is often called the CEO of Hamas. According to the Wall Street Journal report, Western countries including Israel have imposed many economic sanctions on Hamas.
Despite this, he manages to raise millions of dollars in funding every year. This is no small feat.

Jabarin had said in an interview that he had no connection with Hamas’s Al Qassim.
Released from Israeli occupation like Sinwar
According to the report of The Daily Mail, Hamas has more than 500 million dollars. Jabarin decides how and what this money is to be used. Being the head of the economic department in Hamas, he enjoys a very special status. This is the reason why America imposed sanctions on him in 2019.
Jabarin also has a good relationship with Turkish President Erdogan. Apart from this, he also has a good relationship with Hezbollah and Iran. Jabarin was arrested in 1996 after killing an Israeli soldier. He remained in jail for 15 years.
He was released along with Sinwar in a prisoner exchange for an Israeli soldier in 2011. In an interview, Jabarin said that he is associated with the political wing of Hamas. He has no connection with Al Qassim.
He further said that Israel tries to mix apples and oranges but both are different, they cannot be one. Al Qassim and Hamas have no relation. According to reports, Sinwar and Meshaal are big contenders but their relations are not good. It is unlikely that both will support each other in the name. Jabarin can benefit from this.

Al-Hayya has good relations with many countries. This is the reason why his claim for the post of Hamas chief is strong.
Khalil al-Hayya wants nothing more than war with Israel
Khalil al-Hayya, like Jabarin, was also working as Haniyeh’s deputy. Al-Hayya is not in favor of talks with Israel. He believes that the problem of Palestine can be solved only by defeating Israel.
When the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Al-Hayya also supported the other faction against Bashar Assad, but now he has established friendship with the Syrian ruler. Like Haniyeh, Al-Hayya is known for taking tough and balanced steps. His leadership is praised.
According to reports, Hamas will need the support of the outside world in this difficult time. In such a situation, the role of Al-Hayya becomes big because it has good relations with Iran, Turkey, Syria, Qatar and Egypt.
