The last prayers will be held on Sunday for senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who committed suicide by abusing himself. It has been organized at Nada Saheb Gurudwara in Panchkula. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Chandigarh Police is investigating this high profile suicide case.

SIT had registered an FIR in this case on October 9 and a day later wrote a letter to Home Department’s ACS Dr. Sumita Mishra and sent a list of 29 documents. After this, three more documents have been asked for in the second letter.
The government has handed over some of these 32 documents to the SIT of Chandigarh Police, some are still outstanding. These documents are either in the DGP Haryana office or belong to some other department. As soon as these documents are received by the Home Department, they will also be handed over to the SIT of Chandigarh Police.
IPS committed suicide on 7th October IG Y Puran Kumar, posted at the Police Training College (PTC) in Sunaria, Rohtak, had committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Sector-11, Chandigarh on October 7. He left an 8-page suicide note and a one-page will. In the suicide note, he accused 15 current and former officers including Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and the then Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania of torturing him.
SIT asked for these important documents from Haryana
- IPS Puran Kumar, when he was IG Home Guard, had written a letter on 14 November 2023, in which he had talked about giving ex post facto approval to 140 places of worship in police premises, re-fixing the promotion of 2001 batch (Y Puran Kumar batch) from January 1, 2015. A copy of this correspondence has been requested.
- A copy of the complaint sent against Amitabh Dhillon on August 29, 2024 has been sought. Regarding this, Puran Kumar wrote in the last note that no action was taken on this complaint.
- A letter sent by the National Scheduled Caste Commission has been sought. No action was taken to register FIR on this basis.
- A copy of the government letter sent to the then ACS Home, Anurag Rastogi on 21 August 2024 and 25 September 2024 has been sought. In the last note, Puran Kumar wrote that no action was taken on these letters. On the contrary, the reports/complaints were filed unilaterally. The complainant was not given any opportunity to give statement or documents.
- Y Puran Kumar had written in the last note that the comments made in his annual report for the period ending March 31, 2024 were factually incorrect, completely imaginary, baseless, suffering from personal bias and in violation of the principles of natural justice. A copy of the correspondence in this regard was sought.

31 member committee is now focusing on these
- Will call all IAS-IPS officers in the condolence meeting: About 15 thousand people from across the state are expected to attend the last Ardas ceremony of IPS Y Puran Kumar at Nada Sahib Gurdwara in Panchkula. Committee’s legal advisor OP Indal said that all the IAS and IPS officers of Haryana are likely to come. The date for organizing this last Ardaas has been decided after discussions with the family.
- Committee will be formed at All India level: The 31 member committee also decided to take this issue to the national level. For this, a committee will be formed at All India level. National level social leaders will be included in this committee. The committee will also go to Delhi and meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding this matter.
- Will write a letter to the World Bank demanding to stop the funds: OP Indal, legal advisor of the committee and advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court, said that a letter will also be written to the World Bank regarding this entire matter. He said that the government is using our money against our society. In such a situation, the committee will write a letter to the World Bank demanding a ban on the money given to the government and taking back the money already given.
