Politics over the word ‘Pandit’ has intensified in Uttar Pradesh. A controversy has arisen over a question in the Sanskrit exam of Class 7 of a council school in Agra. The question was – ‘On the basis of the text, who is the one who goes far without feet and is literate but is not a scholar.’ People belonging to the Brahmin community have expressed objection regarding this question.
Expressing strong displeasure over this, District Minister of Primary Teachers Association, Brajesh Dixit has sent a complaint to the concerned officials including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He says that such a question has been asked with the aim of insulting the Brahmin community. He also said that this question is out of the syllabus and the word ‘Pandit’ is not mentioned anywhere in the book.
Let us tell you that earlier a controversy had arisen across the state regarding the question asked in the Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector (UPSI) recruitment examination. In a question related to Hindi language, the meaning of ‘changes according to the occasion’ was asked. People objected to the inclusion of the word ‘Pandit’ as an option in the options of this question.
What did BSA say?
According to Brajesh Dixit, such questions promote casteism and send wrong messages in the minds of children. He has demanded that the matter be investigated and action be taken against those responsible. On this matter, BSA Agra Jitendra Kumar Gaur said that a reply has been sought from the DIET spokesperson who prepared the paper. The spokesperson says that the word ‘Pandit’ has been used in the sense of a scholar, there is no negativity in it and it should not be linked to caste.
BSA also agreed that the questions should be as per the syllabus and the matter will be discussed with the DIET Principal. He said that this question is only Agra It was included in the papers of students of , not in the entire state. From now on, strict instructions will be given that no questions should be asked outside the syllabus.
Meanwhile, state government minister Yogendra Upadhyay has also reacted on this issue. He said that the government works to maintain social harmony, but some people try to spoil the atmosphere. It is not right to comment on any caste or tradition and it shows small thinking.
