China and the Philippines have once again accused each other of hitting each other’s coast guard vessels in the South China Sea. According to news agency Reuters, there was a collision between the coast guard vessels of the two countries on Saturday. This is the fifth collision in the sea between China and the Philippines this month.

Philippines Coast Guard spokesperson Tariel shared the video of the collision on Saturday. He said that the Chinese Coast Guard ship deliberately hit the Philippines ship. Due to this, their Coast Guard Vessel has been damaged. However, no one was injured during this.

Meanwhile, Chinese Coast Guard spokesman Liu Dejun said that the Philippines had illegally stopped its ship on a coral island named Sabina Shoal (Second Thomas Shoal) in the South China Sea. Then it suddenly hit the Chinese Coast Guard Vessel. The Chinese Coast Guard has said that if the Philippines does not retreat in time, it will have to face the consequences.

In the footage, coast guard vessels from China and the Philippines are seen colliding.

China said- We will take every necessary step for the security of the country
Liu said that the Chinese Coast Guard will take all necessary steps to protect its country’s security and maritime rights. In fact, in April, the Philippines deployed a ship 75 nautical miles (138 km) away from its Palawan province.

The Philippines has alleged that China is trying to build an artificial island illegally. However, China has rejected these claims. China claims the entire South China Sea as its part. It has a dispute with countries like the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam and Brunei regarding this.

China has previously blamed the Philippines and threatened to face consequences
About 12 days ago, there was a collision between ships of China and Philippines near Second Thomas Shoal. China’s Coast Guard had said that its coast guard ship 21551 warned Philippines ship 4410 several times but they ignored it and collided.

Chinese Coast Guard spokesman Geng Yu had said that the Philippines ship acted in a very irresponsible and dangerous manner. The Philippines ship had illegally entered Chinese waters near Jiabin Reef (Sabina Shoal). If they continue to make such provocative actions, they will have to face the consequences.

6 countries have claims on Second Thomas Shoal, Philippines has the strongest claim
Second Thomas Shoal is a submerged reef in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. It is claimed by six countries. The Philippines says that Second Thomas Shoal is located 200 nautical miles (about 370 kilometers) from its coastline and 140 km from Palawan Island. This area falls within its internationally recognized Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The Philippines has deployed its naval ship BRP Sierra Madre on Second Thomas Shoal for two decades. A small contingent of Philippine Marines is deployed on it. China has also deployed many of its boats and coastguards for surveillance in this area. This is the reason why ships of both the countries often collide here.

China calls Second Thomas Shoal Sabina Shoal and claims it. This area is about 1000 km away from China’s Hainan Island. In fact, South China has been claiming about 80% of the area of Sh. This is a sea area where natural oil and gas is available in abundance.

Because of this, no country nearby wants to give up its claim on the South China Sea. This is the reason why China is having a dispute with many countries over this area.

International Court gave verdict against China, Dragon did not agree
In 2016, the Hague-based International Court of Justice ruled that China’s claims have no legal basis under international law. However, Beijing does not accept this decision and has been trying to establish its dominance in this area.

China enacted a new maritime law in June to establish its dominance in the South China Sea. According to this, in serious cases of intrusion into the South China Sea, China will be able to detain the accused for 60 days without trial.
