Bollywood’s King Khan Shahrukh has turned 60 today. On the special occasion of his birthday, director of the film Bhootnath, Vivek Sharma, while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, told that there is still a child inside Shahrukh Khan, who excites him to learn new things. He also told that Shahrukh Khan secretly bears the expenses of treatment of cancer patients of Nanavati Hospital, because his parents also died due to cancer. These qualities make him the king of Bollywood.
Vivek Sharma said- Hello, I am Vivek Sharma. Whenever I talk about Shahrukh Khan, I call him ‘Shah Khan’, I think I am the only one who calls him by that name. I have had very lovely experiences with him and one thing I have always felt is that there is a child inside Shah Khan, a ‘child-like excitement’. It is this child that makes him so passionate and a true visionary.
Risk taking producer and actor
The biggest specialty of Shah Khan is his courage to take risks. He chooses films on ‘instinct’ and ‘vibe’ and not just on mathematics.
I remember, Amol Palekar ji had narrated him the story of a film. He liked it so much that when we were shooting an advertisement at Kamalistan Studio, he immediately said, “Vivek, we make this film under our banner.” And he offered Amol ji that “I will produce it.”
That film was ‘Paheli’. His look in that was completely different, completely Rajasthani and desert, very clean, completely adventurous. The film probably did not do well at the box office, but people appreciated Shah Khan’s work. And this is his mark, taking risks and daring to do something new. He is an adventurous person and will always take risks. This vision of his makes him a visionary producer.
Passion for technology and loyalty to friends
Shah Khan places a lot of emphasis on technology and VFX. This is because of the child inside him who is always excited about new things. He was one of the first to bring technology into the industry, and it is his vision that drives him to push the boundaries of cinema.
He is a ‘friend of friends’. Always stand up for friends. I still remember when we were adjusting the dates for ‘Bhootnath’. At that time Shah Khan was shooting a big ‘Jet Airways’ advertisement, which was being directed by Shekhar Kapur. Without any questions, he extended the shoot so that he could give me dates for ‘Bhootnath’. This is his nobility, his loyalty to friends and work.
A kind hearted person and silent charity
Shah Khan has not just one but many qualities, among which his kind heart is at the top. He doesn’t praise his charity, he does a lot quietly. Many people would not know that he provides free cancer treatment for children in Nanavati Hospital.
His own parents died of cancer, perhaps that is why his feeling of pain and service towards this disease runs deep. He does not publicize his generosity and this makes him even greater. It is his human side that shines brighter than his stardom.
Shahrukh has a vision of the future
Shah Khan is not just an actor, he is a capable producer. Even today, if he wants, he can bring back the era of powerful and content-oriented films like ‘Swades’ or ‘Chak De India’.
I believe that his talent, ability to take risks, love for technology, and standing up for his friends all together make him the ‘King Khan’ of the industry. I call him Shah Khan, because he has a wonderful combination of the foresight of an emperor and the innocence of a child.
Very few people would know that Chak De India was first offered to Salman Khan, but when Shahrukh came to know about the script, he called Aditya Chopra in advance. Said to let him do the film. In return I will also halve the fees.
I wish Shah Khan a very happy birthday and wish him to always be happy, healthy and successful.
