20 months ago, 52% of Canadians said that Ottawa and New Delhi should maintain friendly relations with each other as essential partners. However, now the number of these people has come down to only 24%.

The survey also revealed that in Canada, India is still viewed in a more positive light than Russia and China. However, their trust in New Delhi is only 28%.

Parliamentary elections are going to be held in Canada in 2025 and the opposition Conservative Party is considered a strong contender for victory. According to people, if the Conservative Party wins, Pierre Poilievre will be the Prime Minister of Canada, which will provide an opportunity to improve bilateral relations again.

Despite strained relations, 64% of Canadians believe that the country should try to start a business dialogue with India again. The main reason behind this thinking of people is Trump’s threat to impose 25% tariff on Canadian exports.
