Counting of votes is going on after the presidential election in Sri Lanka. In the results of postal voting, National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is leading in the race to become the President. Current President Ranil Wickremesinghe and main opposition leader Sajith Premadasa are trailing in the trends.
Voting took place in Sri Lanka on September 21 from 7 am to 4 pm at more than 13,400 polling stations in 22 electoral districts. Postal votes from seven out of 22 electoral districts have been counted. Dissanayake has received 56% votes, while his opponent is behind him with 19% votes.
Analysts say that Dissanayake is likely to win the presidency with a margin of more than 50% of the votes. Anura Dissanayake is considered pro-China. Anura has promised that after becoming the President, he will cancel Adani’s project.

Anura says that the Adani project is a threat to Sri Lanka’s energy sovereignty. Adani Group has signed a deal with the Sri Lankan government this year to develop a wind power station. For this, the company is going to invest $ 442 million (about Rs 367 crore).
