Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has said that Mumbai has been looted for years. file
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray. He said- Thackeray brothers’ love for Marathi Manus (people) is fake and their real focus is on the coffers of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
While addressing the Mahayuti rally in Worli, Mumbai, Shinde said – The next mayor of Mumbai will be a Marathi. Some people remember Marathi Manus only at the time of elections. Where was the vision of Aditya-Amit Thackeray when they were in power? Then Mumbai was looted for years.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also said that the BJP-led grand alliance will deport the ‘Bangladeshi infiltrators’ present in Mumbai. Also said that the next mayor of Mumbai will be Marathi and Hindu.
Actually, voting is to be held on January 15 for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Its result will come on 16 January.

Shinde said- Mumbai needs development
Maharashtra Deputy CM said that Mumbai cannot be separated from Maharashtra and the city needs development, not emotional politics. This rally of Mahayuti is the beginning of the victory of BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in BMC.
Shinde said that those who earlier criticized the Ladki Bahin scheme are now announcing similar schemes. Under this scheme, eligible women of the state get ₹ 1500 monthly assistance.
Fadnavis claims- every Mumbaikar will get a house
Fadnavis said that Mahayuti believes in work rather than announcements. He claimed that every Mumbaikar will get a house in the city, slum dwellers will also be given quality housing.
He said that 450 km metro network is being prepared in Mumbai, out of which 150 km has already become operational. An environment budget of ₹17 thousand crore will also be brought to make Mumbai the most eco-friendly city in the country.
Ajit Pawar and BJP face to face
Infighting has started in the Grand Alliance (NDA) amid the civic elections in Maharashtra. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Maharashtra government said during a press conference in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday-
The same people who once accused me of Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam are in power with me today. Mere accusation does not make a person guilty unless the crime is proven in a court of law.

Ajit Pawar was speaking on the statement of BJP leader Muralidhar Mohol. Mohol had said- Why is NCP giving tickets to such candidates who have criminal cases registered against them? Angered by Ajit’s sharp reply, BJP state president Ravindra Chavan said on Saturday-
Ajit Pawar should look inside himself, if I start speaking, he may get into trouble.

Maharashtra civic elections- 68 candidates won unopposed without voting
13 days before the voting for Municipal Corporation elections in Maharashtra, BJP alliance (Mahayuti) has won unopposed on 68 seats. BJP got 44 seats, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 22 seats. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party got two seats.
According to the rules, if only one candidate remains in the fray for a seat and no other candidate files nomination or withdraws, then that candidate is declared elected unopposed.
The same situation prevailed on these 68 seats, so there was no need to hold voting. This means that now voting will be held on the remaining 2801 seats of 29 Municipal Corporations on January 15. The results will come on January 16.
Maximum number of BJP candidates won from Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.
The 44 candidates of BJP have been elected unopposed. Most of them are from Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation of Thane district. After this he won elections from Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Panvel, Bhiwandi, Dhule, Jalgaon and Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation.
BJP candidates Manjusha Nagpure and Shrikant Jagtap were elected unopposed from Ward No. 35 of Pune. Both of them were also elected from the same ward between 2017 and 2022.
Opposition’s reaction on victory before voting
- MNS leader Avinash Jadhav said, if you want to win even before voting then why hold elections. Both the ruling parties should divide it among themselves. Democracy has ended in India and the state. He chose the weak candidates of the opposition and got his work done.
- Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant also accused the ruling parties of putting pressure on opposition candidates to ensure such an uncontested victory.
Direct contest between BJP-Shinde Sena and Thackeray Sena-MNS on 32 seats in Mumbai
There will be a direct contest between the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and the Shiv Sena (UBT)-Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on 32 seats in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. This situation has arisen because the Congress-Bahujan Vanchit Aghadi (VBA) alliance has not fielded any candidate on these seats.
Congress has so far announced 143 candidates in Mumbai. VBA has been given 46 seats to contest and other allies including Left parties and Rashtriya Samaj Party have been given six seats. That means the Congress led alliance has fielded candidates on 195 seats.
This leaves 32 seats without a third front candidate, due to which there will be no division of votes.
Why is BMC election a question of credibility?
- BMC elections are not just a fight for the Municipal Corporation but for gaining power in Mumbai. Therefore it is a question of credibility for Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi.
- BMC, Asia’s largest civic body with a budget of Rs 74,000 crore, was ruled by Shiv Sena without division (1997-2017). Then BJP was its ally.
- The budget of Mumbai Municipal Corporation is bigger than the budget of Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
- This is why BJP, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, Congress, Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar are trying to strengthen their hold.
