The trailer of Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s film ‘Haq’ was launched in Mumbai today. The film is a courtroom drama based on the important Supreme Court case ‘Mohammed Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum’, in which Yami Gautam plays the role of Shazia Bano and Emraan Hashmi plays the role of her husband Abbas.

Yami Gautam’s character in the trailer is Shazia Bano (Shah Bano) who approaches the court to seek justice for herself and her children after being abandoned by her husband (Emraan Hashmi). Emraan Hashmi is here as her husband and an influential lawyer with whom Yami clashes in court. The film reflects the debate on the limits of religion and personal belief versus secular law and raises questions such as Uniform Civil Code.
The trailer starts with a glimpse of a love story, but soon turns into a fight for justice, where Yami Gautam’s character struggles against injustice. The film is inspired by the historic Supreme Court decision of Shah Bano, which talked about the rights of Muslim women. The trailer showcases the powerful performances of both the actors and their courtroom altercation, which highlights a sensitive social issue. This story is not only a fight for a woman’s rights in the country, but also symbolizes the fight for justice and equality for the entire society.

At the trailer launch, Emraan Hashmi said that this film is like a responsibility for him, as it takes forward the debate of women’s rights and justice in the society. He said playing a Muslim character in ‘Haq’ was a challenge, and he wanted the audience to recognize women’s voices and consider equality before the law through the courtroom drama.

Yami Gautam expressed her excitement about the depth of the story and character of the film and shared her acting experience. He said that the most important thing for an artist is the story. Yami told that she has about 8-10 minutes long monologue in this film, which was shot without breaks and cuts. This was his biggest acting effort to date. She also expressed her respect for Shah Bano’s struggle and her insistence for justice and said that this character is the voice of all those women who fight for their rights against society and law.
This film, directed by director Suparn S Verma, will be released in theaters on 7 November 2025. Apart from Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, the film also stars Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, Asim Hattangadi and former Miss Universe India Vartika Singh in lead roles.
