If this missile attack had been successful, this war would have spread beyond the Middle East. It is also considered to be Iran’s longest range missile attempt so far.
Diego Garcia is about 4,000 kilometers away from Iran. This is twice the normal range of Tehran’s ballistic missiles. By the way, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi had once said that the country’s missiles can hit up to 2,000 kilometers. In such a situation, this target is twice beyond their range. Even though this attack did not succeed in its target, it has forced the world to reconsider Iran’s real capabilities. Also, if this attack had been successful, it could have been said that no American military base is completely inaccessible.

If we talk about distance from India, then it is in the Indian Ocean and if we understand according to the map, then it is below Sri Lanka. The southern region of India is near it and it is about 1800-2000 kilometers away from the lower region of India.
Why is this army base special?
Diego Garcia is considered an important platform for the display of American power, where there are heavy bombers, surveillance aircraft and very important infrastructure. Diego Garcia is a small island located in the Indian Ocean, which is part of the British Indian Ocean Territory. It is located in the Chagos Islands and is an important US-UK military base which has been used as a staging hub for US bombing operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. From this base, America can show its power in West Asia, Africa and the entire Indo-Pacific region. Iran, China, India and sea routes are all within its reach. It is close to the sea routes through which a large part of world trade passes.
Technically this island belongs to Mauritius, which is a country close to India. In the 1960s, Britain and America forcibly removed the original inhabitants (Chagossians) here, so that a military base could be built. In recent years, international courts have declared Britain’s occupation illegal. Recently Britain had made an agreement to hand it over to Mauritius, which was also opposed by America. America considers it one of its important places, it also played a big role in the Iraq War.
