A village was completely destroyed by a fierce landslide in the Marra mountainous area of western Sudan. After heavy rains on 31 August, at least 1,000 people died in the accident, while only one person survived. This information was given by Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A).
The group headed by Abdulwahid Mohammad Noor issued a statement saying that the entire village has become frozen. The group has appealed to the United Nations and International Relief Agencies to take out the bodies and help the victims.
The village falls in the Darfur region, where long -standing struggle continues. A large number of people had arrived in the Marra mountain area to avoid the two -year -old civil war between the Army and the Paramilitary Force Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the North Darfur state.
But here too they had neither enough food nor medicines. The civil war that continued for the last two years has pushed Sudan into a deep humanitarian crisis.
More than half of the population is on the verge of starvation. Millions of people have been displaced from their homes. Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, is constantly under attack.
Local organizations say that if international help is not reached soon, then this disaster in the Marra mountainous region can become a bigger human crisis.
