A textile factory caught fire on Thursday morning in Landi’s Export Processing Area (KEPZ) in Karachi, Pakistan. 8 people were injured in this accident and the building collapsed completely.
According to Pakistani media, the fire broke out in the morning and uncontrollable for more than four hours. 12 fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the fire, but the fire spread rapidly.
Four other factories nearby also caused fire. The factory used to recycling old clothes and also kept chemicals there, causing the fire to intensify.
Rescue officer Abid Jillal said that 1,200 to 1,500 people were present in the factory at the time of the fire. All the laborers were rescued safely and nearby buildings were also evacuated.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took cognizance of the incident and engaged in rescue operations. Chief Fire Officer Muhammad Humayun said that the fire started from the first floor and spread rapidly.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. It may take three to four days to remove debris. He also said that security survey forms were sent to the factories of the area, but no response was received. According to Geo News, five personnel were injured in a fire in another factory in Landi in June.
