A political battle has started over the 30-day exemption announced by America for India to buy oil from Russia. The Congress party has called it an attack on India’s sovereignty and American blackmail. Congress has raised questions on the Central Government that for how long will America continue to blackmail us like this. Congress expressed objection to America’s statement on this matter. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has shared the video of the last session in the Lok Sabha regarding this matter. In the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had targeted the government over American interference in purchasing oil from Russia. Rahul Gandhi had said- Will America tell us whether we can buy oil from Russia or Iran or not? This will be decided by America, not our Prime Minister. How long will this American blackmail last: Jairam Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has posted in Hindi on X, ‘Trump’s new game, told Delhi friend, you can get oil from Putin, how long will this American blackmail last.’ Whereas Congress MP Manish Tiwari has even linked it to the sovereignty of the country. He wrote in response to US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant’s statement on Are we a banana republic that we need US permission to buy oil for ourselves? However, the silence of the government which talks a lot is more. Doesn’t it know what sovereignty means?’ America said – Russia does not benefit from the exemption. Earlier, the US Treasury Secretary had informed through X that ‘The Treasury Department issues a temporary exemption for 30 days to Indian refiners to buy Russian oil. The Russian government will not get much financial benefit from this short-term measure. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said on March 6 that this temporary step has been taken under President Trump’s energy agenda. He said that India is an important partner of America and this exemption has been given to keep the supply of oil stable in the global market. Iran has blocked the ‘Strait of Hormuz’, from where 20% of the world’s oil supply comes. Attacks on oil fields: In the last few days, there have been attacks on major centers like Saudi Aramco’s ‘Ras Tanura’ refinery and Iraq’s ‘Rumaila’ oil field.
