Prem Sagar, son and producer of filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, died on Sunday. He breathed his last at 10 am today.
The last rites of Prem Sagar will be performed today at the Pawanhans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai.
A source told NDTV, “He was ill for some time and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. On Sunday, doctors advised him to take him home.
Prem Sagar took training from Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). He was a 1968 batch student. FTII studies gave him a strong technical basis. During this time, his understanding of photography and cinematography deepened.
Prem Sagar worked for a long time under the Sagar Arts banner. This production house was started by his father Ramanand Sagar. Ramanand Sagar is known for making the TV series Ramayana. Prem Sagar worked as a stil photographer and cinematographer in several projects of this banner.
Let us know that the first broadcast of ‘Ramayana’ was on Doordarshan in 1987. In the show, Arun Govil played Ram, Deepika Chikhalia, Sita and Arvind Trivedi have played Ravana.
Prem was the director of the TV series ‘Alif Laila’. Apart from this, he also created religious projects like ‘Kakbhushundi Ramayana’ (2024) and ‘Kamadhenu Gaumata’ (2025).
He also made his technical identity in films. In the 1968 film ‘Aankhen’ and 1972 ‘Lalkar’ worked in the camera and Electrical Department, while the 1976 ‘Charas’ was a cinematographer. As a producer, he did projects like ‘Hum Tere Aashiq Hain’ (1979), ‘Basera’ (2009) and ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ (2010).
