Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga first wanted to cast veteran actor Ranveer Singh in his film ‘Kabir Singh’. But Ranveer flatly refused calling it a very dark film. Later Sandeep Reddy Vanga cast Shahid Kapoor in place of Ranveer and this film proved to be the turning point film of Shahid Kapoor’s career.

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga told in an interview to iDream Media, ‘I first went to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him, but he said it was too dark a film. At that time he was not ready to do such a film. Shahid was offered this film after Ranveer refused.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga says- However, Shahid Kapoor’s box office track record was troubling our team. None of his solo films reached Rs 100 crore. The highest earning of his films was Rs 65 crores. People used to say that the business of Telugu films is only this much. If it had been with Ranveer, the film would have worked better. Still I trusted Shahid Kapoor, he is a great actor, I always believed that.

Let us tell you that ‘Kabir Singh’ was the remake of Sandeep Reddy’s first Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’. This film was a hit in 2017. When ‘Kabir Singh’ was released, it proved to be a blockbuster despite mixed reviews from critics. The pairing of Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani created a stir. The film did a global business of Rs 380 crore.

After Kabir Singh, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ was released on 1 December 2023. This film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol made Sandeep a superhit director. This film proved to be a blockbuster with a worldwide business of more than Rs 900 crore.
