On Friday, PM Modi inaugurated ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ at Bharat Mandapam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that earlier governments did not pay attention to the development of the Northeast because the Northeast had less votes and less seats. During Atal ji’s government, a separate ministry was created for the development of North-East.

He said Union ministers made 700 visits to the Northeast in the last decade. We are connecting the North-East with the trinity of emotion, economy and ecology. During the last 10 years we have tried to bridge the gap between Delhi and the heartland with the Northeast.

PM Modi said these things at the inauguration of the three-day ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ organized at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. In this program the cultural heritage of North Eastern States will be showcased.

PM said that ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ is the first and unique event of its kind. Today, the doors of investment are opening in the Northeast on such a large scale, this is a great opportunity for the farmers, artisans and craftsmen of the Northeast as well as investors from all over the world.

Highlights of PM Modi’s address 3…

  • We have seen the emergence of big cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai. In the coming decades we will see the power of cities like Agartala, Guwahati, Gangtok, Aizawl, Shillong, Itanagar, Kohima. Events like Ashtalakshmi will play a big role in this.
  • Many historic peace agreements have been signed in the North East. The border disputes between the states have also progressed quite amicably. There has been a decline in cases of violence in the Northeast. AFSPA has been removed from many districts. We have to together write the new future of Ashtalakshmi, for this the government is taking every step.
  • There are many natural resources in North-East India. There is a wonderful confluence of minerals, oil and biodiversity in the Northeast. There is immense potential for renewable energy here. The Northeast is famous for natural farming and millet. We are proud that Sikkim is the first state to practice organic farming.

What is Ashtalakshmi Festival? Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim are the states which are said to be ‘Ashtalakshmi’ or 8 forms of prosperity. They contribute significantly to the cultural, social and economic system of India.

Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav has been conceptualized to promote economic opportunities in areas like traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agricultural products and tourism of the Northeast. Many types of programs will take place in this three-day festival. There will also be artisan exhibitions, rural haats, state-specific pavilions and technical sessions on key areas for the development of the North Eastern region.
