This is the third time this month that PM Modi has spoken to a head of state over the phone. Earlier on August 16, he had spoken to Israeli PM Netanyahu and Bangladesh Chief Advisor Yunus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to US President Joe Biden over the phone on Monday, 26 August. The two leaders discussed a range of global issues, including Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi also reiterated India’s support for peace and stability in Ukraine.

The issue of Bangladesh was also discussed between Modi and Biden. Modi and Biden stressed on normalizing the situation in Bangladesh soon. They also stressed on the early restoration of law and order in Bangladesh and ensuring the safety of minorities, especially Hindus.

PM Modi was on a visit to Ukraine last week on 23 August. During this, in a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Modi had said, ‘India has always been in favor of peace. I met Russian President Putin a few days ago. Then I looked into his eyes in front of the media and said that this is not the time for war.’

Modi and Zelensky had a meeting for about 3 hours at the Mariinsky Palace in Ukraine. He invited Zelensky to visit India. Modi also went to the Ukraine National Museum with Zelensky, where he paid tribute to the children killed in the war. He also placed a doll at the children’s memorial.

Yunus assured the safety of Hindus
Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus spoke to PM Modi on phone on August 16. Mohammad Yunus assured PM Modi about the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. During the conversation, Modi said that India supports the restoration of democracy, stability and peace in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Modi had expressed concern about the safety of Bangladeshi Hindus in his speech from the Red Fort on August 15. Attacks on minority Hindus have increased continuously during the violent protests in Bangladesh. So far, more than 205 cases of attacks on Hindus have been reported.
