Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet during the SCO Summit to be held in Tianjin city on 31 August.
The two leaders will meet for a second time within a year. The last meeting took place in October 2024. After this, India and China agreed to resolve the border dispute through negotiations.
In addition to Jinping in this visit, PM Modi will also meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of several Central Asian countries.
The SCO Summit is scheduled to meet in China from 31 August to 1 September. Leaders of more than 20 countries are going to participate in it.

Jaishankar visited China last month
Last month, External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar visited China, where he met President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Jaishankar spoke on issues like sharing water resource data, sharing trading restrictions, reducing tension on LAC and taking a tough stand against terrorism and extremism. According to media reports, the meeting had prepared a roadmap for Modi’s visit to China.

The last time Modi and Jinping met in Russia
Modi and Jinping last met in October 2024 during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. During this time there was also bilateral conversation between the two.
In a 50 -minute conversation, PM Modi had said that ‘maintaining peace and stability on the border should be our priority. Mutual belief, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the foundation of our relationship.

PM Modi’s visit to China is taking place at a time when the whole world is struggling with the tariff policies of US President Trump. Trump has announced 25% tariffs on India due to Russian oil and weapon purchase.
India is the largest buyer of Russian oil in the world after China. India buys 17.8 lakh barrels of crude oil from Russia every day.
Jinping visited India in 2019
Xi Jinping last visited India in 2019. The two leaders then met in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. This journey was an important step towards strengthening India-China relations and managing mutual differences.
The two leaders also agreed to maintain peace and stability on the border.

SCO was established in 2001
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization founded in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Later India and Pakistan joined it in 2017. In 2023, Iran also became a member of it.
The SCO aims to increase security, economic and political cooperation among the member countries. The organization formulates a shared strategy on issues like terrorism, extremism, drug smuggling and cyber crime.
