- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog. CMs of 7 states have refused to attend this meeting. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will attend the meeting.

1. Reservation for Agniveers in 5 states including MP-UP, Haryana-Uttarakhand have already announced reservation

PM Modi paid tribute to the martyrs at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.
The governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Gujarat have announced reservation for Agniveers of the army in the recruitment of state police. Earlier, on July 17, Haryana and on July 22, Uttarakhand governments had announced 10% reservation for Agniveers. On July 12, the Union Home Ministry had also announced 10% reservation for Agniveers in BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and CISF.
On the other hand, on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war in Ladakh. Modi said that the opposition is spreading lies on Agniveer. On the PM’s statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said – Modi is saying that his government implemented the Agneepath scheme at the behest of the army. This is a lie. This is an insult to the army.
What is Agniveer Scheme: The central government launched the Agneepath scheme on 14 June 2022 for the recruitment of youth in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Under this, there is a provision to recruit Agniveers for 4 years. After completion of 4 years of tenure, Agniveers can apply for a permanent job in the army. Army officials will consider making Agniveers permanent on the basis of their qualification and performance. 25% of Agniveers will be recruited in the permanent cadre.

2. Rahul Gandhi stitched slippers at a cobbler’s shop in UP; he had to appear in court in a defamation case

While returning from Sultanpur to Lucknow, Rahul Gandhi stopped at a cobbler’s shop.
Rahul Gandhi recorded his statement in the defamation case in Sultanpur court of UP. He is accused of making objectionable comments against Home Minister Amit Shah. While returning to Lucknow, Rahul stopped his convoy at a cobbler’s shop. He asked cobbler Ram Chait how he makes shoes and stitched slippers at the shop himself.
Rahul stayed in Sultanpur court for 16 minutes: Rahul Gandhi recorded his statement in the defamation case in Sultanpur court. He told the judge, ‘I am innocent. There has been a political conspiracy against me. I deny all the allegations. The allegations have been made to tarnish my and my party’s image.’ Rahul is on bail in this case since February 20. The next hearing is on August 12.

3. NEET-UG revised result: Toppers dropped from 61 to 17, ranks of 4.2 lakh candidates changed

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the revised result of NEET-UG -2024. This has changed the rank of 4.2 lakh students. At the same time, the number of toppers has come down from 61 to 17. This happened due to a question in Physics. 2 options of question number 19 were correct, but the Supreme Court had formed a committee and asked to choose one option. Also, NTA was ordered to release the revised result.
The number of toppers in the result released on June 4 was 67. But in the exam held after the grace marks controversy, the number of toppers had reduced by 6. This exam was held on May 5 at 4,750 centers in 571 cities across the country. More than 24 lakh candidates appeared for the exam.

4. Attack on France’s rail network before the Olympics, arson and vandalism on 3 rail lines coming to Paris

The rail network was attacked about 10 hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in France. Many railway lines were vandalized and wires were burnt. Within half an hour of the attack, many trains going to and coming from Paris had to be canceled. Many trains were delayed by 90 minutes. This affected about 2.5 lakh passengers. Information about who attacked the rail network and why has not been revealed yet. PM Gabriel Attal has called the attack a conspiracy to disrupt the Olympics.
PM said- this is a well thought out conspiracy: France’s Transport Minister said that the investigating officers have found the device that was used to set the fire. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said, ‘The attack on the railway network was a well-planned conspiracy. The attackers targeted the main sites of the system, due to which the railway service came to a halt for some time. This shows that they had complete information about the rail network.’

5. The ban on writing names on the Kanwar route will continue, the Yogi government said – there were fights due to garlic and onion in the food
The Supreme Court’s interim stay on the matter of writing names on the Kanwar route in UP will continue. The UP government said in its reply filed in the court – During the Kanwar Yatra, there is confusion due to food items. Especially there were fights over the use of onion and garlic. Kanwariyas complained about this many times. The order was given on this basis. After this, the court ordered to continue the ban.
The UP government explained the reason for the order: On July 19, the UP government had ordered that the owners of shops, hotels and dhabas on the route of the Kanwar Yatra should write their names and those of the staff. The UP government said – The purpose behind our order was that the Kanwariyas should know what food they are eating, so that their religious sentiments are not hurt and the journey is completed peacefully. The order does not discriminate on the basis of religion, it is for everyone.

6. India reached the final of Women’s Asia Cup for the ninth time, defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets

7. 114mm rain in Pune after 57 years, flood in 10 districts of Gujarat, 1 lakh people affected in Surat

Due to heavy rains, flood-like conditions have arisen in many districts of Maharashtra. NDRF has been deployed at 18 places in the state and SDRF in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara and Sangli. Pune received 114 mm of rain in 24 hours. Moidam of Assam is included in UNESCO World Heritage, it is called the Pyramid of Assam

The word Moidam is derived from the Tai word Phraang-mai-dam or Mae-tam. Phraang-mai means to put into a grave or bury and Dam means the spirit of the deceased.
UNESCO has declared Moidam of Assam as a World Heritage. Moidams are the tombs of kings, queens and nobles of the Ahom dynasty. These mound-like tombs are also called the pyramids of Assam. Assam was ruled by the Tai-Ahom dynasty for about 600 years from 1228 to 1826. Charaideo was their capital. Out of the 386 Moidams discovered here, 90 royal tombs are the best preserved and best structures of this tradition. For the first time, a cultural heritage of the Northeast has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Earlier, Kaziranga and Manas National Parks have been declared World Heritage.
