Assembly elections are to be held in 5 states next month. Of these, there are four states which have placed a big bet on the so-called winning formula i.e. cash transfer. All four states are transferring Rs 24500 crore directly into the bank accounts of women. The election promise is also that if we come to power, money will continue to go into our accounts like this for 5 years.

DMK government of Tamil Nadu has given Rs. 2-2 thousand. In the name of special summer package, it was deposited in women’s account. The BJP government of Assam gave Rs 4,000 each to celebrate Bihu.

The leftist government of Kerala also brought the Stree Sukham Cash Scheme. 10 lakh women are getting Rs 1000 each every month. The Trinamool government of Bengal had released Rs 500 in the Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in February. Has increased.

Despite the deteriorating economy, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool government will have to pay Rs 5,000 crore next year. This scheme had given victory to Mamata in the 2021 elections.

The number of women beneficiaries of all the schemes in the four states is 4.1 crore, while the total voters are 17.89 crore. That means the total beneficiaries of cash schemes are 23%.

Now 15 states are giving cash assistance to women

If we look at the trend of elections held in the last 5 years, it is found that the number of states giving cash transfer to women has increased from one to 15. These states will provide Rs 2.46 lakh crore to more than 13 crore women. Annual cash transfer is 0.7% of the total budget of these states. A state like Jharkhand is giving 81% of its total rural development budget in cash transfer to women.

But, the trend is also that in the states which are stopping development schemes and spending on cash schemes, many schemes are not being started there. Due to cash schemes, big states like Maharashtra-Karnataka have had to cut down their important expenses.

Cash transfer schemes became game changers in these states

  • Madhya Pradesh: (2023): Rs 1250/month to 1.31 crore women under ‘Ladli Behna’ scheme; Advance on many seats.
