In the 2020 riots in Bengaluru, the NIA special court sentenced three accused to 7-7 years. Those who were sentenced include Syed Iqbaluddin (44), Syed Asif (46) and Mohammad Atif. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹ 20,000 on all three.
The riots furious on 11 August 2020 after an objectionable social media post of the nephew of Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy. A mob of around 3,000 people set fire to the house of DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations, MLA Murthy and his sister Jayanti. 3 people were killed in the violence, 90 vehicles were burnt and more than 100 people were injured, including 70 policemen.
The NIA investigation revealed that the three convicted banned organization PFI’s political branch is associated with SDPI. They burnt the vehicles by adding petrol and provoked the crowd. He conspired to deliberately spread panic and damage government property.
