Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavarov has indicated that there has been an understanding on how to calm the situation on the border between India and China, I think the time has come to re-activate the Russia-India-China platform.
According to Russia’s news agency RT, Lavarov said that Russia has made it clear in a conversation with India that India’s interest in Quad is mainly limited to trade and peaceful economic cooperation. However, he also alleged that other countries of the quad are trying to push the four countries towards military cooperation through steps like Navy and military exercises, even though they are not formally under the quad.
He expressed confidence that India can clearly see these provocative activities and in such a situation, when India and China are moving towards resolving the mutual border dispute, this is the most suitable time to resume Ric format.
Explain that this tripartite platform between Russia, India and China was established years ago, which aims to promote cooperation, stability and balance in Asia. In recent years between China and India, this platform became inactive due to tension. Now when some softness is being seen in the relationship between the two countries, Russia is seen taking diplomatic initiative to resume this platform.
Let us know that last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavarov supported India’s appeal to improve India’s reform in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. He especially emphasized the needs of improvement in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and advocated permanent membership to India and Brazil. He had said that this change will go a way to give more representation to the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
