Maldives PM is in America. He expressed his views in an event organized at Princeton University.
Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu has denied ever pursuing an ‘India Out’ agenda. He said that he was never against India. The mere presence of Indian troops was a serious problem for Maldives.
Muizzu has gone to America to address the United Nations General Assembly. During this time he had reached Princeton University. Here he said these things.
Maldives PM said- “We have never been against any country. The people of Maldives had problems with foreign soldiers. People did not want a single foreign soldier in the country.”
The first meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Moizzu took place during the COP 28 conference held in December 2023.
Action against those commenting on PM Modi PM Muizzu said that he has taken action against ministers for insulting the Indian PM on social media. He said-
No one should say such a thing. I will not tolerate this kind of insult to anyone, be it a leader or a common man. Everyone has his own respect.
Earlier this year, Malsha Sharif and Mariam Shiuna, Deputy Youth Ministers in the Maldives government, had made comments against the Prime Minister on social media. After this, there was anger against Maldives on social media in India.
India-Maldives tension increased after Muizzu became President Tension had arisen between the two countries after Muizzu assumed power in November 2023. Muizzu was demanding removal of Indian troops from Maldives even before becoming the President. 45-year-old Muizzu had defeated pro-India candidate Mohammad Solih in the elections.
Muizzu had said that if India does not withdraw its army, it will be an insult to the democratic freedom of the people of Maldives. Muizzu had also described the presence of Indian troops as a threat to the future of democracy in Maldives. He said that the presence of another country’s army in the country without the permission of the Parliament is against the Constitution.
Muizzu went to China on his first state visit. Before this, every President of Maldives used to make his first visit to India only.
Muijju will come to India soon Muizzu will soon be on his first official visit to India. Muizzu’s spokesperson had given this information on September 10. His visit was scheduled to take place last month itself, but due to some reason it was postponed. They can now come to India in October. Earlier, Muizzu had come to India on June 9 to attend the swearing-in of Prime Minister Modi.
