The Indian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement saying that India is not responsible for the floods in Bangladesh. The Foreign Ministry said, “There is a rumor in Bangladesh that the floods are caused by the opening of the gates of the Dumbur Dam in Tripura. This is not true.”
The ministry said that the area around the Gomti river flowing through India and Bangladesh has received the highest rainfall this year. This has caused problems on both sides. Flooding in the rivers between the two countries is a common problem, which the people of both countries have to deal with. Cooperation of both countries is needed to deal with this.
The ministry also said that Dumbur Dam is more than 120 km away from the Bangladesh border. It is a low-height dam (about 30 metres) which generates electricity and the electricity goes into the grid through which Bangladesh also gets 40 MW of electricity from Tripura.

Floods in 12 districts of Bangladesh, blame on India
Actually, there is a severe flood in 12 districts of Bangladesh. 36 lakh people are affected by the flood in south-eastern Bangladesh. Hundreds of houses have been submerged in water and people are stranded on the roofs. According to the Bangla newspaper Prothom Alo, 12 people have died so far in accidents caused by floods and rain. Not much information is available due to the telecommunication shutdown.
Some leaders of the interim government, including some leaders of Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), are blaming India for this flood. According to the Dhaka Tribune, Nahid Islam, an advisor in Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry, had said that India released water without warning. This is inhuman.
BNP party’s joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that India deliberately opened the gate of Dumbur dam built on Gomti river in Tripura due to which such a severe flood occurred. He said that India does not care about the people of Bangladesh.

Nahid Islam is an information advisor in the interim government. He played a major role in the student movement against the Hasina government.
Anti-India wave on social media too
Propaganda is also being spread on a large scale against India on social media. Many such posts are viral in which it is claimed that India deliberately released water in Bangladesh because it is angry with the removal of Sheikh Hasina.
One user wrote that those who call India a friend of Bangladesh are enemies of the country. The truth is that both India and Pakistan never want to see Bangladesh progress. Because of India, Bangladesh is facing the worst flood ever.

India said – floods occurred due to excessive rain
According to CNN, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary of Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor in the interim government, said that India believes that water came to Bangladesh on its own. This was due to excess water in the river.
According to Tripura’s Energy Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the Dumbur dam has been designed in such a way that it starts releasing itself when the water level exceeds a certain limit. He said on social media that no gate of the dam was opened.
According to Prothom Alo, on August 18, Bangladesh’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center had only said that the water level in the rivers would rise. India’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center also did not give any such information. As a result, the eastern part of Bangladesh was devastated by a sudden massive flood.
According to CNN, India has admitted that the rains in Tripura caused a power outage which resulted in communication problems.
