India has increased surveillance on the borders after Operation Sindoor and Galwan clash. Surveillance with the help of anti-drones, sensors and laser has been started on the Pakistan and Bangladesh border. At the same time, 29 new outposts have been created on the China border in Ladakh. Also, patrolling of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been increased 3 times.

According to the Annual Report 2024-25 of the Home Ministry, two pilot projects of ‘Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System’ (CIBMS) have been started in a 5-5 km area in Jammu region on the India-Pakistan border and in Dhubri, Assam on the India-Bangladesh border.

CIBMS is a network of many technologies and resources. At the same time, work on ‘Hybrid Surveillance System’ is going on in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur on the Myanmar border.

CIBMS is doing three things simultaneously…

  • Sensors and Monitoring: Thermal imager, radar, laser sensor and GIS mapping are being used in this, which transmits moment-to-moment information to the command center.
  • Network and Data: Data received from different sensors is connected through a secure network.
  • Command and Control: This system provides real time information, so that officers posted at the command headquarters can take fast and accurate decisions.

Focus on anti-drone system for the first time

In view of the increasing threat of drones on the borders, security forces are being equipped with special training and modern equipment. The system is effective in detecting and eliminating illegal air infiltration.

Mapping of border areas with space tech

GIS layer and PM Gati Shakti portal are being used for accurate mapping and strategic planning of border infrastructure. It ensures surveillance of sensitive areas.

Patrolling on China border increased from 173 to 500 per month

ITBP has created 29 new border outposts between 2022 and 2024. This brings the total number to 209. This increase has been made after the clash in Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in June 2020. Then ITBP had 180 outposts.

With the construction of new outposts, ITBP will have year-round presence in remote high-altitude areas. Also, connectivity between forward posts has improved.

According to the Home Ministry report, in 2017-18, ITBP conducted an average of 173 patrolling per month. This number will increase to about 500 per month in 2023-24, i.e. an increase of about 3 times.
