In Britain, a woman threw her ex-boyfriend’s high drive containing Bitcoin codes worth Rs 5900 crore in the garbage. Talking to Daily Mail, a woman named Hafina Eddy-Evans told that about 10 years ago her ex-boyfriend James Howells had asked her to throw garbage during cleaning. I didn’t know what was in it. It wasn’t my fault for losing him.
That hard drive was dumped in the Newport Landfill along with the garbage. It is still buried there under 100,000 tons of garbage. However, now it has become very difficult to get it. Howells mined 8,000 Bitcoins in 2009, but he later discovered that the hard drive containing the crypto codes was lost.
Eddy-Evans said if that hard drive is found, I don’t want any of it, just stop talking about it. This accident had a very bad effect on Howells’ mental condition.
City Council sued for Rs 4,900 crore
Howells has appealed several times to the Newport City Council to excavate the landfill. But, their appeals are rejected every time citing environmental concerns. Howells has sued Newport City Council for Rs 4,900 crore, accusing it of blocking access to the landfill.
Howells has promised that if the hard drive is found, he will donate 10% of his fortune to make Newport Britain’s Dubai or Las Vegas. At present, his legal battle is ongoing, the hearing of which is scheduled to take place in early December.

- Using this software, the money issuing bank, government or other third parties were not able to track the transaction.
- In 1996, the US National Security Agency published a paper describing the cryptocurrency system.
- In 2009, a virtual creator named Satoshi Nakamoto created a cryptocurrency named Bitcoin. Only after this did cryptocurrency gain worldwide popularity
