Marico Limited’s stock is down by about 4% in early trade on Tuesday due to the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh. At 10:22 am, it was trading at Rs 646. 12% of Marico’s consolidated revenue comes from the Bangladesh market.
After the 2-month-long anti-reservation student movement in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post on Monday (5 August). After this, she left the country and reached India from Dhaka via Agartala. The army will now form an interim government in the country.
The company wants to bring Bangladesh’s share in international revenue below 40%
In its June quarter results released on Monday, Marico said it aims to reduce Bangladesh’s share in the company’s international revenue to less than 40% by the end of 2027. Bangladesh’s revenue share was 51% at the end of FY22.

Net profit up 8.66% year-on-year to Rs 464 crore
Marico’s net profit in the April-June quarter rose 8.66% year-on-year to ₹464 crore. The company had a profit of ₹427 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue also grew 6.7% to ₹2,643 crore. It was ₹2,477 crore in the same period last year. The company released the results for the first quarter of FY 2024-2025 on 5 August.
Decreased dependence on coconut oil, focus on shampoo and baby oil
Marico is diversifying its international business. It has reduced its dependence on coconut oil in Bangladesh. It is focusing on shampoo and baby oil.
Marico has operations in Bangladesh for more than 20 years and hence, any adverse situation should not have much impact on its competitive position.
The company manufactures products like Parachute, Saffola, presence in more than 25 countries
